Are you a foreign worker employed in healthcare, in a frontline or another essential occupation in Canada during the global pandemic? Are you also fluent in the French language? Do you want to immigrate to Canada?

To ensure long-term economic growth and to sustain the Francophone community in Canada, the Canadian government has launched new immigration pathways for French-speaking applicants in two groupings of occupations.

The PR Pathway for French-Speaking Temporary Workers in Healthcare and Other Essential Occupations was launched on May 6, 2021, for temporary foreign workers employed in healthcare and other essential occupations who are fluent in the French language. These temporary pathways will be open until November 5, 2021, and will accept applications without any visa cap. Applicants will be required to meet certain eligibility criteria to qualify for these pathways to permanent residency. *These programs were closed on Nov6th,2021

What Is the Eligibility Criteria for PR Pathways for French-Speaking Temporary Workers in Healthcare and Other Essential Occupations?

To qualify for either of these two immigration pathways (Stream A for French-speaking healthcare workers and Steam B for French-speaking essential non-healthcare workers, the applicant must meet the following eligibility criteria:

Have at least 1 year of full-time work experience in an eligible healthcare occupation or part-time work experience adding up to 1,560 hours obtained in the last 3 years
Be currently employed in Canada
Demonstrate language proficiency with at least a level 4 on the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) for French
Have valid temporary resident status in Canada or be eligible for an extension or restoration of your current status
Intend to reside outside the province of Quebec
Apply using the appropriate applications as instructed by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC)

Will These Pathways Allow Applicants to Add Their Accompanying Family Members?

Both immigration pathways allow primary applicants to add their accompanying family members to their application. Based on where the relatives are currently residing, they will be required to meet the following criteria:

Meet the admissibility requirements to enter Canada (Inadmissibility is a set of the reasons one may be denied entry to Canada).

No, there is no visa cap for immigration pathways for French-speaking applicants. These two pathways will accept all applications until November 5, 2021.

Temporary foreign workers in essential services can also opt for existing immigration pathways such as the federal Express Entry or the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). They can also opt for one of the following immigration pathways recently launched by the Canadian government:

If due to a disability or another reason, you are unable to apply for this pathway electronically, then you can apply through any other method made available by the Minister of IRCC for this purpose.
