The Yukon is a small territory in Canada situated in the Whitehorse Valley surrounded by the greenbelt. It holds the Guinness World Record for the least polluted city in the world.
The Yukon is an urban center with developing investments in public and private ventures. It has a distinct small-town feel. It is also a fairly popular tourist destination. The Yukon welcomed 336 immigrants who arrived in 2020.
Yuko offers targeted immigration streams under the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) for foreign skilled workers, entrepreneurs and investors. The YNP is focused on attracting immigrants who will significantly add to the economic development of the territory.
What are the Different Immigration Streams Under the YNP?
The provincial government of Yukon is the main employer of the territory. There are several immigration streams offered under the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP):
Yukon Express Entry (YEE): The Yukon Express Entry (YEE) is for high skilled foreign workers who wish to immigrate to Yukon. The YEE aims to fill labor market gaps by facilitating the immigration of highly skilled foreign workers who will contribute to the economic development of the territory.
Applicants will be required to qualify for 1 of the 3 immigration programs for Express Entry (the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program and the Canadian Experience Class) and meet other eligibility requirements for the Yukon Nominee Program (YNP).
If applicants are nominated by the territory, then they will receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency.
Skilled Worker (YNP): The Skilled Worker (YNP) stream helps employers to hire foreign skilled workers for occupations that can not be filled by permanent residents or Canadian citizens.
Employers can nominate foreign skilled workers for permanent residency under this program. Foreign workers can apply for a temporary work permit while their permanent resident application is being processed.
Critical Impact Worker (YNP): The Critical Impact Worker (YNP) stream is for foreign semi-skilled and low-skilled workers who wish to transition to permanent residents in Canada.
It is an employer-driven stream and requires candidates to have a valid job offer in their current occupation to qualify.
You must also be living and working in Yukon for the last 6 months to be eligible for this stream. This stream aims at filling up labor market gaps to support the economic development of Yukon.
Business Nominee (YNP): The Business Nominee (YNP) stream is for international entrepreneurs and investors who wish to acquire and manage a business in Yukon.
International entrepreneurs with sufficient experience in business ownership and management and legally acquired net worth of $500,000 are eligible. They must invest at least $300,000 for the first 2 years and own 33.33% of the business.
