Immigrating to a new country will always be a lengthy and overwhelming process. However, every country has certain programs to attract essential skilled workers who are of great value and thus require higher priority. Certain occupations will always remain in demand, for example, doctors, nurses, dentists, teachers.

Canada offers various economic immigration programs to make it easier for such skilled workers to immigrate to Canada. This is great news, especially if you are a teacher who wants to resettle in Canada. Canada also has a high standard of living and offers other benefits through living in this wonderful country.

Now, in Canada, every province and territory has its school system. These systems set out the regulations for teaching jobs in Canada. There are general regulations that apply all across the country with some local differences.

How Can Foreign Teachers Immigrate to Canada?

Teachers are classified as “Skilled Workers” in Canada. Therefore, any economic immigration program that facilitates the immigration of skilled workers would be perfect. First and foremost would be the Express Entry system.

The Express Entry system manages applications for federal economic immigration programs:

Now, the FSW is the easiest way for teachers to immigrate as they can easily meet the eligibility requirements for the program. The criteria for selection for the FSW is as follows:

  • Have at least a high school diploma or more
  • Have at least 1 year of full-time work experience in a skilled occupation classified as National Occupational Classification (NOC) code 0, A, or B
  • Demonstrate language proficiency in either English or French
  • Be of eligible age
  • Score high on the Comprehensive System Ranking (CRS) score

As a teacher, you must meet the following additional requirements:

  • Have a bachelor’s degree in education
  • Have a provincial certificate required for teaching occupations in Canada

Certain other factors may also improve your eligibility for teaching jobs. These factors include recent teaching experience, familiarity with the Canadian education system, fitness to teach attested by character certificates from previous places of employment, clean criminal record, etc.

If you are applying for secondary-level teaching jobs, then it is recommended that you have a major in one subject and a minor in another subject to allow you flexibility. These subjects could be related to languages, science, social studies, or business.

Another thing to keep in mind is to have sufficient financial resources to fund your resettlement to Canada. If you are unable to demonstrate sufficient or legal financial resources, your application will be dismissed.

Why Your Application For Canadian Immigration May Get Refused?

Even if you meet all the eligibility requirements, your application for Canadian permanent residence may still get refused if the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) determines that you are denied entry to Canada. Inadmissibility may be based on medical or criminal grounds. The following reasons will make you inadmissible to Canada:
