Author info:

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced that certain international travelers who submitted their Visitor Visa applications before September 7 may get asked to resubmit their application. This information was updated on the IRCC’s website.

Who Is the IRCC Asking to Reapply for the Visitor Visa?

The IRCC has asked certain travelers to resubmit their application for a Visitor Visa if their current application is pending and they need to travel to Canada for the following reasons:

  • To reunite with their family in Canada, either permanent residents or temporary residents
  • Business purposes
  • Compassionate reasons such as attending a funeral, being present for the last moments of a loved one, or providing care to a critically ill person
  • As a vessel or marine crew member
  • Work in Canada as a diplomat or the accompanying family members of the diplomat
  • To handle the affairs of a victim of the Ukraine International Airlines Flight PS752

You must include your updated information and previous application number on your next application. By submitting this application, your previous application will get withdrawn. However, the IRCC does not guarantee any refunds or a letter of confirmation of withdrawal. You can also request a withdrawal of your current application if you no longer have plans of visiting Canada.

What Is a Canadian Visitor Visa?

Unless you are from a visa-exempt country, all international travelers to Canada must apply for a Visitor Visa or a Temporary Resident Visa (TRV). A TRV is required by a visitor, student, or even a foreign worker.

You can apply for a TRV to the nearest Canadian Immigration Visa Offices in your home country. You will be required to demonstrate that you are admissible to Canada, meaning that you do not have any medical issues or criminal history. You will also be required to demonstrate that you intend to leave Canada as soon as your visa expires.

You may even be required to submit biometric information based on your home country. A TRV will allow you to stay in Canada for up to 6 months. Based on the conditions of your visa, it may even be used for multiple entry purposes. You will have to demonstrate that you can support yourself and your family’s stay in Canada.

However, having an approved TRV does not guarantee your admission to Canada. When you reach the Port of Entry, you will be required to state the purpose of your visit. If the border official determines that you do not intend to leave Canada at the end of your stay, then you may be denied entry to Canada
