The Government of Canada recently revealed data that showed an increase in immigration levels for the second quarter of 2021. While admissions of new immigrants is still relatively weak, the Canadian immigration levels are slowly recovering back to pre-pandemic levels.

The second quarter of 2021 was actually quite an improvement for immigration levels to Canadian provinces like British Columbia and Ontario.

What Are the Immigration Levels for Q2 of 2021?

The admissions of new permanent residents has been steadily increasing since the past quarter of 2021. In Q2 of 2021, Canada invited 74,250 new immigrants, a 5.4% increase from the previous quarter. Compared to the Q2 of 2020, the immigration levels increased by a whopping 117.9% in Q2 of 2021. This shows that the immigration levels are gradually recovering to their pre-pandemic levels.

While the current Canadian immigration rate is quite low compared to the pre-pandemic levels, being the second-lowest since 2015, the recovery is still underway.

Where Are Majority of New Immigrants Settling Down In Canada?

Ontario has managed to attract more than half of the new immigrants in the first quarter of 2021. Ontario welcomed around 38,245 new immigrants in Q2 of 2021. This was a 9.3% increase from the previous quarter and a whopping 138% increase compared to the previous year. This means that Ontario welcomed almost 51.5% of all newcomers to Canada. See the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP).

Many new immigrants are also resettling in British Columbia, making it the second fastest-growing Canadian province in the Q2 of 2021. Almost 17% of all new immigrants want to settle down in British Columbia. The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) also invited 12,710 new immigrants in Q2 of 2021. This shows a 23.6% increase compared to the last quarter and a substantial 109.6% increase compared to the same period last year. This has been the most successful quarter for British Columbia since 2019.
