If you want to settle in Florida, then it is best to know the most common pathways for residence in the state. Generally, there are the following categories available to immigrants to apply for the Green Card in the US:

Obtaining permanent residence in the US is the most common goal for immigrants as it allows them to live and work permanently in the US and allows for re-entry if they leave the country.

What Are the Common Ways to Obtain Permanent Residence in Florida?

Employment-Based Visas

There are different types of employment-based visas including the EB-1 Visa that allows foreign workers with limited skills or abilities. This includes foreign workers that have extraordinary skills, are at a managerial or executive level, or are top professors or researchers in their field. No labor certification process is required for this visa.

There is also an EB-2 Visa for professionals, skilled and unskilled workers. Applicants of this visa must go through the labor certification process that requires the confirmation that no US citizen or permanent resident was available to fill the position being offered to the foreign worker. Applicants can get exemption from this requirement by obtaining a National Interest Waiver (NIW) if they have exceptional ability in the subjects of business, science or arts and meet the additional requirements.

Family-Based Visas

Family-Based Sponsorship is the most common pathway to immigrate to Florida. As a fiancé, spouse, dependent child or parent of a US citizen, you can apply for a Green Card through a family-based petition. These are classified as the Immediate Relative (IR) category. The US citizen must file a petition on their relative’s behalf to initiate the process.

Asylum Status

As a victim of persecution or an individual under a valid threat of persecution based on their nationality, political views, religion, race or sexuality, you may be able to apply for asylum in the United States. A deep background check will be conducted to determine whether the threat of persecution is valid. However, due to current world affairs, asylum is the most common ground for a permanent residence application.
