The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) recently announced that Express Entry applicants will once again have only 60 days to respond to their letter of invitation. To overcome the restrictions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, this period was extended to 90 days in March 2020.

However, as restrictions are gradually being lifted with the rollout of vaccines, the IRCC says that it will return to 60 days to allow faster processing of immigration applications. While certain special measures will remain in place to help those affected by the Covid-19 social and travel restrictions. These include people who received their Confirmation of Permanent Residence after March 18, 2020, applicants with their applications still in processing, and others.

When Will the New Express Entry Rule Be Implemented?

The 60-day response period will be implemented again for applicants who receive their Invitation to Apply (ITA) after June 29, 2021. Applicants who received their ITAs before June 29 will still have 90 days to respond to the invitation.

The 60-day response period has been in place since 2018. It was reduced from the 90 days back then as the IRCC observed that more than 50% of applicants required only 2 months to respond to their invitations.
