The Canadian government announced on September 29, 2021, that all direct flights from India will be resumed. This announcement comes after a month-long ban on direct flights from India to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection in Canada. After this ban expires on September 30, travelers will be able to board direct flights from India to Canada.

What Will be the Requirements of Boarding a Flight from India to Canada?

To board a direct flight from India to Canada, you must:

  • Take a Covid-19 molecular test result from the Genstrings Laboratory located above the metro station in the Airport Connecting Building at the Indira Gandhi International Airport
  • Take the test no longer than 18 hours before your scheduled departure
  • Present this test to the air operator before boarding the flight

If you have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past, you can present your positive test result taken between 14 and 180 days before your departure, issued by a certified laboratory in India. If you do not meet these requirements, you may be denied boarding.

What Are the Requirements for Boarding an Indirect Flight from India to Canada?

If you are planning to take an indirect route from India to Canada, you will still be required to present a negative Covid-19 test result taken in the third country to enter Canada. Since all countries have their pandemic-related restrictions, certain countries may not allow entry or transit of passengers from India or passengers who have tested positive in the past. Also, not all international airports will have Covid-19 testing available for passengers. If you test positive in the third country, you will be subjected to the local quarantine restrictions or return to your point of departure.
