Author info:

British Columbia recently announced that they have paused the applications for the Base Category stream of the British Columbia’s Entrepreneur Immigration offered under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) from July 19, 2021.

This was done since the province required time to review the Base Category of the Entrepreneur Immigration and to ensure that the program was meeting the objective of supporting the economic growth and recovery of the province.

The program will likely be paused until 2022. The Base Category of the Entrepreneur Immigration category was first introduced in 2015. This category allowed international entrepreneurs and investors to gain permanent residence in British Columbia by establishing or acquiring a business in the province.

What Is the Base Category Stream of the BC PNP?

The Base Category is offered under the BC PNP Entrepreneur Immigration for international entrepreneurs and investors with a minimum net worth of $600,000 and the ability to make a minimum investment of $200,000 in establishing or acquiring an existing business in British Columbia.

What Will Happen to the Pending Applications to the Program?

The pause on the Base Category will not affect any pending applications already in the system. They will be processed as usual. However, those applications will still have an expiry date and no application past their expiry date will be considered.

The pause will not apply to any other categories under the BC PNP’s Entrepreneur Immigration. The Regional Pilot stream was recently extended till March 2024 while the Strategic Projects stream will also accept applications just as before.
