The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recently announced the extension of the period during which petitioners can use receipt notices to show evidence of status. The status period of petitioners who properly submit Form I-751, Petition to Remove Conditions on Residence, or Form I-829, Petition by Investor to Remove Conditions on Permanent Resident Status was extended from 18 to 24 months.

How Will this Extension Help?

Conditional permanent residents who properly submit a petition for either Form I-751 or I-829 will be able to use their receipt notice as evidence of continued status for 24 months after the expiration of their conditional Green Card.

The USCIS will also issue new receipt notices to conditional permanent residents who properly submitted their forms before September 4, 2021, and those whose cases are still pending. If you are planning to stay outside the US as a conditional permanent resident, you need to apply for Form I-131, Application for Travel Document also called a re-entry permit before leaving the US.
