Prince Edward Island (PEI) is the smallest province within Canada. It has rich historical significance since the “Charlottetown Conference” took place in the island’s capital, which led to the formation of Canada in 1864.
Prince Edward Island is a hub for industries such as tourism, fishing and agriculture. Prince Edward Island is one of four Atlantic Provinces of Canada, along with New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador. Each province or territory has their own Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
Prince Edward Island offers the PEI Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP). Applicants are selected based on the significant economic impact on the province’s labor market.
PEI PNP offers immigration categories for foreign workers, entrepreneurs, and investors. Prince Edward Island welcomed 2,082 immigrants who arrived in 2020.
What are the Different Immigration Categories Offered Under the Prince Edward Island PNP?
You can apply for different immigration categories offered under the PEI PNP:
PEI PNP Express Entry: The PEI PNP Express Entry is for foreign nationals who are eligible for the federal Express Entry system and wish to live and work in the province. This stream does not require you to have a valid job offer from a designated employer in the province.
However, if your skills satisfy the labor market needs and you are currently employed in the province, then your application will receive top priority.
Labour Impact Category (PEI PNP): The Labour Impact Category (PEI PNP) offers immigration pathways for high skilled workers, low skilled workers and international graduates. It provides 3 different immigration streams for foreign workers:
- Skilled Worker Stream: The Skilled Worker Stream is for foreign skilled workers who are currently living and working in the province and have at least 2 years of work experience and a valid job offer
- Critical Worker Stream: The Critical Worker Stream is for low-skilled workers with at least 6 months of work experience with the designated employer and a valid job offer
- International Graduate Stream: The International Graduate Stream is for foreign students who have a Post-Graduation work permit and a valid job offer from a designated employer for an occupation related to their study program
Business Impact Category (PEI PNP): The Business Impact Category (PEI PNP) is for international entrepreneurs and investors with a minimum net worth of $600,000 and the capacity to make an investment of at least $150,000 in an existing and operational business.
This category has 1 stream: the Work Permit Stream which allows international entrepreneurs to work in Canada on a temporary work permit to establish their business.
If they meet the requirements of their business performance agreement, then they will receive the provincial nomination for permanent residence.
To apply for the PEI PNP, you will be required to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) and score the required minimum points on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS).
